Last chance to see historic mining banners
15/09/2008
The National Coal Mining Museum for England’s special exhibition, Basically Banners will be closing on 28 September. Basically Banners is an exciting exhibition which showcases many of the mining banners held at the Museum. A number of banners have been specially conserved for the exhibition. These banners have not previously been on public display, since arriving from the Yorkshire branch of the NUM, in 1993.
The exhibition takes advantage in using both the Museum’s special exhibition gallery and Hope Store. Over twenty banners hang at Hope Store; whilst in the special exhibition gallery, the story of the history of banner making and the meanings behind the images and symbols are bought back to life.
If you’re looking for a good value for money day out after the expense of ‘back to school’ shopping the National Coal Mining Museum is just the ticket, it’s all free after all!
