David Douglass’s Latest Book Launched at the National Coal Mining Museum for England
12/03/2010
The National Coal Mining Museum for England hosted the launch of David Douglass’s latest book ‘Ghost Dancers’, on Wednesday 10 March 2010. The launch included the author reading several extracts from the book, and was accompanied by a selection of guest speakers.
David Douglass has been at the sharp end of the conflict between the National Coal Board and the miners since the Miners’ Strike. In this book he seeks to set the record straight from his point of view, and explode a number of myths which have grown up around the 1984/85 strike. He also deals with the post-Strike period, a topic infrequently covered up till now.
As well as extracts being read from the book, the afternoon included Rachel Horne performing some of her poems and talks given by Betty Cook, Ann Scargill, and Judy Speight from Woolley Colliery Locality Study Group.
The afternoon was concluded by the Museum Director, Dr. Margaret Faull OBE officially launching the book, which was followed by a book signing.
