West Yorkshire students celebrate their coal mining heritage through a Festival of Dance and Drama
06/05/2010
Come and experience the fusion between the rich history of coal mining and the Arts at the annual ‘Drama Festival Day!’ on Tuesday 11 May at the National Coal Mining Museum for England, in partnership with the University of Leeds and a number of local secondary schools.
The university students have been working with the Education Team at the Museum and with groups of pupils from the Cathedral Church of England High School, Freeston Business and Enterprise College, Horbury School and Ossett School.
The day will involve various performances devised by the pupils, which explore the different aspects of the coal mining industry, through physical, literal and abstract theatre, under the guidance of Leeds University performance undergraduates. The university students and the Museum’s Living History characters will also contribute to two original pieces.
Come along and support the local young talent, as performances take place from 10.00am until 2.00pm and admission is free.
