14. Coal-screening plant (restricted access)

The blue-painted coal screening plant is the largest building on site and dates back to the early twentieth century. This was where the stone was sorted from the coal when it came out of the pit. After being sorted in different sizes, the coal would be sent to markets by rail and later, by lorry.
