The Prestwich Patent lamp was invented by Joseph Prestwich. A number of patents were taken out jointly by Prestwich and Protector from 1890 to 1914, including the design for the Prestwich Patent lamp in 1891. The lamp was very successful and, according to Protector, by 1910 over 200,000 Prestwich Patent lamps were in use every day.
