The Ashworth HeppleWhite-gray lamp was designed specially for gas testing by James Ashworth in 1887. Specialist gas-testing lamps gave much more precise readings of how much methane gas was in the air.
They were manufactured by Davis of Derby from 1890s, appearing in their 1893 catalogue.
