A sepia photographic print showing the Denby to Little Eaton tramroad, also called the Derby Canal Railway. Ponies or horses would pull chaldrons (wagons) full of coal from the collieries at Kilburn and Denby down to the Derby Canal at Little Eaton. The route was in use for over 100 years, opened in 1795 and finally closed in 1908.
The track used L-shape iron rails and the wagons had wooden wheels. It is referred to a gangway, tramway or even a tramroad.
