Kellingley Colliery is situated in the heart of Yorkshire, just off the M62 near Pontefract. The pit started production in 1965 after 5 years of development work. At its peak, Kellingley employed over 200 people, largely supplying coal to nearby power stations. The last pit in Britain; the closure of Kellingley Colliery in 2015, marked the end of deep mining.
