Flame-Safety Lamp

The Mueseler lamp was designed by a Belgian engineer, Mathieu Louis Mueseler, in 1840.

The lamp was very similar to Clanny’s but, by adding a conical internal chimney, Mueseler aided the air flow within the lamp. The chimney also reduced the tendency for the internal glass to become sooty and so gave a clearer light than the Clanny.
