An oil painting on board by the artist Dorothie Field (1915-1994). She was part of the Chelsea School of Art and trained under Henry Moore. She lived and worked in mining areas and also helped set up the Midland Group of Artists.

The miner in the painting is wearing a compressed card helmet, holds a small bird and in the background, there is a colliery with aerial ropeway.
