Tipper lorries like this delivered coal from coal merchants or direct from collieries to the customer’s door. The lorry would deposit piles of coal, on the street outside the houses, which would then need moving into coal bunkers.
This Dennis Tipping Coal Lorry was registered in 1929 and restored by Joseph N Clegg of Emley. In its life this lorry has undergone several alterations and may actually have originated as a war surplus vehicle from the First World War.
