Please note that we are set to temporarily pause our iconic Underground Tours, from Sunday 29 December until April 2025, to install a brand new winding engine. The Museum will remain open with a brand-new digital immersive experience launching in January 2025.
This sectioned lamps shows the internal workings of a modern mining lamp. Underneath the bonnet you can see twin gauzes which make the lamp safe. In the fuel vessel in the base you can see wool which was used to stop the fuel sloshing about when miners were moving underrground.
