Rock Hard Revolt: Call for Musicians
Calling all musicians, bands and solo artists!
We are Coal Camaraderie and on behalf of the National Coal Mining Museum we are organising a youth-led arts festival called Rock Hard Revolt on Saturday 6 July 2024. This festival is inspired by stories from the 1984-85 Miners’ Strikes, featuring a new exhibition at the museum as well as theatre performances, arts workshops and activities. The last festival held by the museum attracted more than 1500 visitors!
We are seeking musicians, bands and performers aged 14-25 from Wakefield and surrounding areas who are available on Saturday 6 July to perform for our audiences!
We offer you an opportunity to build your audience through our social networks and on the day, and some exclusive festival merch.
Performances will take place in a marquee in the grounds of National Coal Mining Museum on a ‘plug and play’ style basis throughout the day. This is most suitable for acoustic acts, singers and solo musicians, and small bands who are able to travel light, as well as marching bands and choirs. We have a small PA which can accommodate up to 6 channels of audio (eg a guitar, vocal mic, bass and keyboard). We do not have a backline drumkit, so if you need drums, you will need to bring a few stands and drums with you!
What are we looking for?
Singer-songwriters, buskers, bands (including marching and brass bands!), acapella singers, choirs, predominantly aged 14-25 from the Wakefield area. Self contained artists who can bring their own amps and equipment – we are able to provide some basics (minimal PA). 15-30 minutes of original music and age-appropriate covers (no swearing please!), we are particularly interested in music inspired by the strikes, such as covers of songs by The Clash and The Communards who supported and held fundraiser gigs during the strikes.
Please note that we are not able to offer a backline drum kit or accommodate full electric bands.
